What to Do if the Easy Pedal Clutch Won’t Adjust

On some trucks the clutch may go a long time before you find the need to adjust it. However, I would suggest adjusting your clutch every six months even if all you do is turn the ring ways and turn it back again. That way the adjusting ring won’t get stuck. If you have an easy pedal clutch installed you may or may not be able to get it to adjust depending on the elements your truck has been running in.

If you can’t get it to adjust then it’s time for another clutch, although there is one more thing you could try…

Remove the adjuster from the pressure plate and take a long reach blow gun and blow all the dirt and debris you can from the ring, springs, and pressure plate.

Now spray some X-88 from AC Delco onto the adjusting ring, spray it in both directions and heavy, let it sit for a few minutes. (If you still have coverage on your clutch the manufacturer may require you to use WD-40, check tech sheets first).

Now turn the motor over so the ring is at 12, now spray inside of the release springs above the ring, let this stand for 5 minutes.

Now turn the motor so the adjuster is at 9 to 10 and spray the ring very heavy and let stand for a half-hour, then do 6 again, stand for 5 minutes, then do 2-3 let stand for a half-hour.

Now run the motor and with the transmission in neutral, dump the clutch fast about 10 times, shut off the motor then do 9-10 again and let stand for an hour, by now then ring should be getting wet so you can put the adjuster back in and start to work it left and right until the ring breaks free, if it does it will take at least a dozen rachet strokes to free up.

Repeat as needed until the ring turns, if it works set your clutch to specs and remember to adjust again in a few months if the ring is still stuck it’s time to put in another clutch. If you see gravel or dirt roads you may want to install a standard pedal with the manual adjuster, it gives you a little more to work with for the conditions, if you see mostly pavement you can use the easy pedal, but with any clutch adjust it to ensure longer life and function.
