How to Adjust Compressor Cut-Out Pressure on Air Governor

If your compressor isn’t cutting out low or high enough after installing a new air governor, you can adjust the pressure settings. You’ll need a short flat blade screwdriver and a 7/16 wrench. Start the engine and build your air pressure to near desired setting.

Next remove the cover, (unscrew clockwise for bendix and pull off for midland) and place the wrench on the nut and the screwdriver in the slotted end of the bolt. Loosen the nut 1/4 turn. If your cut-out pressure was too low turn the adjusting bolt with the screwdriver 1/4 to 1/2 turn counterclockwise, then check your gauge.

If your cut out pressure was too high turn the adjusting bolt 1/4 to 1/2 turn clockwise. If you do your adjustments near the desired pressure small adjustments should do. Once you have found your settings, tighten the jam nut and replace the cover.

Most governors come pre-set at 120psi but on some applications, 130psi is required, so you will have to adjust the governor after installation. Also, check the air system over for air leaks as they can affect cut-in and cut-out of the air compressor.
